After a 10 year hiatus, I started taking Spin classes at my gym a few months ago, which got me thinking, what accessories do I need to make the most of my workout, and where do I get them? So, I’ve rounded up everything you need for a great Spin class.
Oh, and I should mention, not all spin classes are created equal, and if it’s in your budget, take a Soul-Cycle class. It will change your life and will amp up your workout.
1) Cute Workout Clothes. Are you working out in old leggings and an old tank top? Go buy yourself one or two cute gym outfits, and you’ll feel excited to work out just to put on your cute outfits. Now, while I love lululemon, I can’t afford them, so my go to is Gap Body, Old Navy or Forever 21. Yup. They have great workout clothes that feel nice but are also nice to your wallet.
2) Socks! I always forget a pair of socks, and end up having to buy some at the front desk, which is not very cost efficient. Good socks make all the difference.
3) Spin Shoes – If you just started Spinning like I did, Spin shoes are a MUST. It will completely change the way you ride. I got mine from Spinning.com, but make sure you get the lock that attaches to the bottom. I had to go to a bike shop to get them added. Spin shoes will make you feel one with the bike, you’ll be able to do jumps better, go faster, and just flow much better than with regular sneakers. Trust me, Spin Shoes are a must have.
4) Heart Rate Monitor – While I don’t love attaching my heart rate monitor, I do love knowing how many calories I burned while working out. I use Polar and it works really well. I had a bit of a hard time setting it up and I’m not 100% I did it correctly, but it seems to tally my calories accuractely, so I’ll keep using it. I’m still on the hunt for the best heart rate monitor. I will let you know what I find.
5) Water — Don’t forget to bring a bottle of water with you, you will want to hydrate!
6) After Workout Snack — You want to eat something within 30 minutes of ending a class. Almonds, protein shakes or bars are a great snack.
What would you say are some of your spin essentials?
